Steve is a stop motion animation puppet, a character I designed and constructed for my own personal development as a puppet maker. I’ve always wanted to go bigger with my one of my character designs just for my own satisfaction and I’m really pleased with how he turned out.
Steve is 15” in height and around 4” in width with an armature made from varied strength posable wire with structural support made with K&S square tubing and Milliput as well as a head made from balsa wood. The face, ears and horns are sculpted from Milliput that I sanded down for a smooth finish then painted with various Citadel acrylic paints. The eyes are acrylic doll eyes I purchased online then painted black with Citadel acrylic paint and glossed with Liquitex high gloss varnish. The body was sculpted out of upholstery foam with fingers bulked up by Micropore surgical tape then painted with Citadel acrylic paint and glossed with satin varnish. To finish, the body is covered with secondhand dyed leather of different grades sewn together with waxed black thread.
